May 2019 - Digital Marketing FAQs for the Small Business Owner

It’s the beginning of summer and you’re probably trying to figure out what new marketing strategies you’ll need to implement to get some new summer customers!

The goal of CRoche Consulting is to not only provide an effective space for small businesses to market their companies cost-effectively, we also want to be an educational resource for you to learn more about digital marketing and how you can use it to your advantage.

Since this is the first month of our Digital Marketing FAQs for Small Business Owners, we’ll cover some very basic questions:

What is digital marketing?

Digital marketing involves marketing to your consumers using the internet. Digital marketing uses different channels such as apps, websites, emails, search engines, or even social media to connect with your customers and potential new customers.

What is SEO?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is best explained as using both on-website and off-website tactics to assist you in getting your content presented by a search engine (Ex: Google). If you do this correctly, your traffic, exposure and engagement will increase.

Why is SEO important?

Most of the web traffic to your website is generated by search engines. Typically the traffic generated by search provide better value than the other websites.

What are keywords?

Keywords are the words and phrases customers use within search engines to find relevant information, articles, pages, videos, images when they are looking for an answer, service or general information. When you’re attempting to improve your SEO, you’ll want to include relevant, popular keywords to optimize your content for search engines.

What determines search engine rankings?

This is a SUPER popular question and depending on who you ask, you’ll typically receive a multitude of different answers to this question, especially since Google doesn’t help tell you what you need to do. Most experts will agree that search engine rankings are determined on website relevance and domain authority. My recommendation to have a good search ranking is to make a very, very thorough web page based on providing education/value for that specific topic. The best way I can explain it is that Google makes money from recommending high quality businesses, so if your business is providing good value and quality, Google should pick up on your website.

Why is social media important?

Nowadays, there is a big possibility that your customers are active on at least one of the major social networks. If you can understand the importance and impact that social media marketing can bring to your business, it can ultimately drive more traffic, build better brand awareness, allow you to connect with your customers on a deeper level and can even help you build brand loyalty.

What does Google Analytics do?

Google Analytics is an essential website analytic platform that provides valuable insights into how your users find, use and think about your website. Within this incredible platform, you’re able to figure out audience insights, consumer behavior, and even customer acquisition details. The best part about Google Analytics is that it’s 100% FREE!

How long does it typically take to see results?

When it comes to paid digital marketing you should begin to see results immediately. While, on the other hand, channels such as blogging, content marketing, email marketing, and search engine optimization will typically take between 6-12 months. The most important thing to realize is that while you may start to see some results within a few months, you’ll want to take a long term approach and ensure that you keep up rankings for a long period of time.
