Tired of Writing Boring Ads? Try This Instead…
Clicks are down, you are out of ideas, and you are considering reposting that old content again or just not posting at all. How do you spice up a seemingly boring product or service? What more can you say about the specs and your new promotion?
Here’s our #1 tip: Focus on the benefits. How does your product or service make your customer’s life easier?
You might say, “Yes, but you don’t understand, I sell rocks. It’s not glamorous or shiny, the process isn’t clean and simple.” Okay, but what benefit do these rocks have? If online art investors are willing to pay thousands of dollars for a digital image of a “pet rock”, surely there is a way to shake up your marketing model a bit.
Here’s the copy for a feature-focused ad about rocks:
Pure igneous rock
1 ton of solid material
Color variance developed by magma cooling and compressing over thousands of years.
Zzzzzz….wait what? What were they selling? I think I dozed off.
How about this benefits-focused ad for those rocks instead:
Versatile seating perfect for your next outdoor party
Available in a variety of natural tones sure to match your decor
Sturdy material that will always be there for you
What are you selling? Seating, decor, and reliability. Don’t sell the rocks, sell how they help people.
Granted, there will always be someone who asks what kind of rock it is and how old it is and where you procured it, but they are not the majority of the market. If your goal is to spruce up your boring ads and compel people to click then focus on the person you are selling to, not the product you are selling. Focus on the benefits.
